Private Childbirth Classes

Text Box: In today’s hectic lifestyle, private, in-home childbirth classes give everyone the opportunity to “squeeze” this very important information in. Studies have shown over and over again the positive impact taking a childbirth class has on birth outcomes. In this day of modern technology and medical interventions, we have lost sight of the natural, normal, healthy miracle that birth is. Our childbirth classes help to show you the wonderful way your body was designed to work and help explain all the “technical” stuff so you are less apprehensive going into labor. Classes are designed to be fun and informal while still covering a ton of information.
A one-time, private class, lasts about three hours and will be tailored to your specific questions and expectations while thoroughly covering labor and birth basics. Before the scheduled class, we will talk on the phone to determine what you are hoping to get out of the classes. I will then mail you a short DVD that wonderfully explains the basic anatomy and physiology of birth, and gives you an idea of what to expect. We will then meet (at your home or other arranged location) to have your private class.
Your childbirth class will include: an explanation of the process of labor and birth, medical interventions and procedures, comfort measures (massage, positioning, breathing, focusing strategies…), demonstration of labor “tools” (birth ball, massage tools, soothe sacks…). You will receive a childbirth “workbook” as well a “Coaches’ Cheat Sheet” to help you remember everything from class and apply it during labor.

Classes will be taught by Nicole Rafferty, Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Lactation Educator and Doula.
A little about me: I have over 8 years experience teaching childbirth classes and have attended over 200 births in the past 9 years. I teach weekly classes for our local hospital and have taught dozens of in-home private classes. I use my hands-on experience coaching birth and experiencing my own births to help you find the techniques that will work best for you. I like to incorporate fun into my classes and not use to much “medical” terminology. I am always happy to answer any questions or chat with you about childbirth classes.
